A challenging day

Yesterday was a challenging day for all of us. Within 24 hours we lost 6 of our patients. Some died of overwhelming infections, and others died from lesser infections but without the strength to fight the infections off, due to malnutrition. The weather was also unbearably hot. Even the Ghanaians were uncomfortable in the heat.

Here's a patient with a seizure disorder and developmental delay, due to meningitis 3 months ago. I have a patient just like her in my practice at home.

Here we are on Thursday, looking cool and well rested.

Here's the front of the hospital, on a clinic day . Here's the view into town from the front of the hospital. Notice the bus, which has brought patients from several hours away.

At the side of the hospital, these patients are waiting to be served at the pharmacy at the end of the day. Going to the doctor is an all-day affair.

We slept well last night and now we are ready to head back to the hospital. Mary Ann is on call today (Saturday) and Tracey and I are on call tomorrow.
Shelley and Becky should be arriving Monday morning, and it will be great to see them! They are bringing us more Crystal Light.
Somehow, these photos are not lining up as well with the text as yesterday's post, but I need to go to work, so I'll post it now so everyone can see.
